i got 64Mb in my DX4, runs DOS, Windows 95 and Debian Etch. 32Mb wasnt enough for Win95 and Linux. (Cacheable Area is 64Mb so i'm fine.) 16Mb is enough for MS-Dos. Most Games don't requiere more RAM. A DVD-Rom is just a Bigger CD-Rom. No Issue, even on 286 and with SCSI on 8088s.

PCI and Soundblaster isnt really combatible. All PCI Cards need EMM386.EXE loaded and some special TSR for getting SB Combatible. This means all Games that don't like protect mode won't run with PCI Cards.

XP SP3 is much faster on my PII as 2000 with all Updates. And has better Driver Support, if you going to use it for Games and want to use both CPUs, i would definitly recommend XP. With Dualcore Patch you will also benefit from better Thread Sheduling on XP. (Windows 2003 Kernel)

Even older Software can use a Big Memory. 1Gb on a PII 450 will still give you a improvement. If you use older Software like Photoshop, Premiere 6 you will benefit from it. or using Multiple Software Instances at same time. S3 Wrapper for GLquake works only with Virge, best with Virge 325 4Mb. For 2Mb you have to force 320x200 Resolution. Trio3D is different thing.

I use a 077 OAK with 1Meg in a Harris 286 16mhz, and switching to ET4000 or Fast Cirrus Logic does gives only a very small speed boost. If Software is ET4000 optimized the situation is a bit different.

You could try an ISA NIC and use it with mTCP+packet driver. You can just load a packet driver when you want to, use mTCP's FTP client and FileZilla on your main machine. At least on my 486 it works wonders, and if I recall correctly mTCP is supposed to be useabe even on 8088 machines. mTCP works …

tried some Tests, looks like the Core is really the same like the 5x86, but amd disabled half of 16kb. but makes no big difference at all. Core works at 3x50 and 4x40Mhz well, no issues, crashes etc. i did some mpeg encoding on the CPU under Linux and it was running ~ 30-40 hours for a videocd.
