Re: CD Redirect!?

in DOS
FakeCD already didn't work that well under Windows 98 anymore. Under Windows XP it's totally useless - much better to just use Daemon Tools.

Re: CD Redirect!?

in DOS
I believe he means the "subst" command - substitutes a folder for a drive. The screenshot shows Lands of Lore which can easily be "cracked" like that. I used this method 10 years ago on my own computer. Just type subst x: c:\path where x: is the drive you want to make, and path being the path to the …

Re: Microcosm

I played with those settings quite a lot 😜 with little to no result. I managed to get install.exe working (you're supposed to type install c:\mc or something like that). Maybe the actual exe needs something like that too.

Re: Silver by Infogrames

in Windows
That's what I tried - but it din't work. It uses Securom, and there's no crack released that seems to work and I doubt my DVD player is capable of a correct 1:1 copy 😖

Re: Silver by Infogrames

in Windows
It's the copyprotection - at least that's my guess. Why? I installed Qemu, with Windows 95 on a virtual drive. It emulates Windows 95 near perfectly ... except for the CD ROM drive. It allows you to load iso files, but ISO files are inherently useles for copy protections. I tried Silver and got the …

Re: DOSbox and Daggerfall

First, make sure none of the files are write protected. A lot of people glance over this but it makes the oddest errors happen. Second, Dagger Fall worked fine for me, both the official CD and a ripped version. The question of course is where you got yours from - a custom ripped version mixed with a …

Re: Microcosm

I have the same problem. I tried to install it on Qemu running Windows 95 but got similar issues. This game is one mean bitch to run. Nearly any game that won't run in DOSBOX will run in Qemu but this one gives the exact same errors. Theboss, where did you get the iso ?

Nine Lives Of Secret Agent Kat

I bought this game ages ago - wonderful game except that the mouse doesn't work in DOSBOX. This is quite annoying because the entire interface is mouse driven, and using the cursor keys to guide the pointer is slow and tedious. Would anyone know anything to fix this? The archive can be found on …

Re: New DOSBox Frontend - DOSBox Game Launcher

Okay, another remark. It's EXTREMELY easy to fuck up the entire database it seems. I merely added one entry manually (in the database file) and the program wouldn't even boot anymore, because the database version was not correct or something. I tried to put back the backup I made, but it refused : …

Re: New DOSBox Frontend - DOSBox Game Launcher

Okay I have another proposition: There's one field called "status" which I use to show whether a game works completely, partially, or is broken in some way. But it would be a good idea to add custom fields which can then be shown in the list too. For example, a custom field which shows how well it …

Re: lemmings sound wont work

Duke3d/Blood have some aspects that are hard to emulate fast. That's what I mean - higher cycles don't mean a faster game, and because some games are emulated better than others, you can't tag a "Mhz" value on it in any case since every game will have a different performance seperate from the …

Re: lemmings sound wont work

I'll give you an example: Duke Nukem 3D. It ran fine on my 486, yet DOSBOX struggles with it more (also Blood & Shadow Warrior) than games like Dungeon Keeper which was made for a Pentium. I guess it's the way the game was programmed and the way DOSBOX emulates this.

Re: lemmings sound wont work

Yeah I noticed how some older DOS games will run crap no matter the cycles, yet others that were very tough on my old PC run pretty damn well in DOSBOX regardless. So you can't even compare game speeds to those of the real retro PCs since a game that ran well on a 486 may run badly on DOSBOX yet …

Re: New DOSBox Frontend - DOSBox Game Launcher

@red_avatar - have a look at the file database.script in the db folder. It is the DBGL database in the sense that the SQL-commands listed in database.script creates the in-memory database that DBGL is using while it runs. Some of the things you ask for (copying of game setups) can be done by simple …

Re: New DOSBox Frontend - DOSBox Game Launcher

Please note that archives other than zip are not supported, and that you need a special build (with PhysFS support http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1240030&group_id=52551&atid=467234 ) to use zips. I believe that D.O.G. does support other types of archives because that front …

Re: New DOSBox Frontend - DOSBox Game Launcher

I'll mostly need it for ISO files myself - I use RAR file and not zip files for compressed games (RAR is easily +15% more efficient). Otherwise, great to hear. I like how you can link to a setup file too. Maybe one small thing: when you add a new game, it ends up at the bottom of the list. Would it …
