Re: Retro phone Nokia 3310

in Milliways
They already released a "new" 3310 more than a decade ago. It was called the 6300 and it had nearly the same specs as this one. And then there were tons of "new 3310's" before and after that, by Nokia and almost every other phone maker, only they didn't have the name.

Re: I blame Phil..

I blame Phil only for a few items I've bought. The full responsibility for getting me into this hobby goes to LGR, specifically the Voodoo 1 video, which made me think "wow this whole retro dual video card thing is pretty cool, think I'll do a Voodoo build for myself!" 🤣

Re: SB AWE64 - noisy, how to troubleshoot?

in Marvin \ Sound
I had the same issue with my budget AWE64. Tried different slot placements, PSUs, CD drives and other stuff, but nothing worked. Switched to an Audician32 and the noise was gone. These cards just have poor signal quality and there is very little you can do about it.

A small update: bought a 9800 XXL by Medion, which should arrive sometime within a week. Looking at the specs its equivalent to a 9800pro. 9800XXL.jpg Has anyone had any experiences with these cards? How is the cooling compared to stock 9800pro? Also I assume it's powered by the floppy power cable? …

You could also skip one or 2 generations and upgrade to the 2xxx or 3xxx series. They use PCIe to AGP bridges but otherwise would run way cooler. I'm looking into building an era-correct, early DX9 rig from 2003-2004, the kind you'd build for HL2, Doom 3, UT 2004, etc. Preferably ATI. So the card …
