If its mainly for GUI acceleration, you might want to reconsider ATI. PCI Rage cards usually go for 10-15 shipped. DOS game compatibility isn't that great though.

Usually Im in favour of putting custom coolers on hardware. After all, a cool card is happy card with a long lifespan. This however is more likely to break the card than properly cool it.

Most Games from 1997-1999 look best on Voodoo und run best on Voodoo. Other Chips are in my opinion for that time useless While I agree that a V3 would be the best overall choice, I wouldnt go so far as to call other chips useless. Got this wee tiny Socket 7 board for little less then dollar. Is there some teeny tiny case I can fit it in to make nice small set? Already tried with Pentium MMX i have laying around and figured out that it will not accept 512 MB of RAM, but that really doesn't matter since 256 MB is plenty enough …

Been wrestling with my P2 rig today, it appears my motherboard (AOpen AX6BC) has trouble detecting RAM - some sticks report 128MB instead of 256, some aren't detected and some sticks make it refuse to boot at all. Not too bothered, since 128MB is already overkill.

Made a few tests with my Voodoo SLI setup - tested how well cards with 90MHz and 100MHz memory perform in Quake 2 and Unreal (SLI 90+100 vs 100+100; Single 90 vs 100). In a single card setup both performed identically. When in SLI mode, Q2 performed nearly identically, however Unreal got a 10% boost …
