Why an ATI x300? That is what is a waste. 7900GTX or X850XT PE would have been a much better choice. Maybe even faster.. but I haven't actually gotten anything faster working in Windows 98SE but have a pretty good idea of how to remedy that.

According to this list, your mitherboard should work fine with Coppermine CPUs. You may need to update the BIOS though. http://biosupdate.runboard.com/t7

I've upgraded it to it's full potential so that it's still barely usable for modern tasks but it does struggle with things like 1080p youtube. Which version of the chipset drivers do you have installed? If I remember correctly, there is a specific version that actually works like it should.

What about other Glide games. How do they perform? What happens if you lower the CPU speed? How about if the motherboard cache is disabled in BIOS? What is the PCI latency set to in BIOS?

What does the BIOS string say when the board first POSTs ? It should show up on the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Post the contents of your config.sys and autoexec.bat. The "auto optimization" features of memory managers are pretty much absolute crap.

Yeah.. either something is seriously wrong with your install of XP or the card is bad. The X-Fi Xtreme Music was the first X-Fi card I ever had and it just worked with no problems with the regular driver install over the course of a few different builds it was used in.

What are your system specs? Specific brand and model of motherboard please. Does it have the latest available BIOS installed? Do you have the chipset drivers for your motherboard installed? Try editing the SETUPDS.INI to change the IRQ to 7 instead of 5 but my guess is that DSDMA is freaking out the board because of having more than 512MB of RAM. What is the brand and model of motherboard you are using? Please also post the contents of config.sys.
