Did it do that only in Windows or in real DOS as well? Are you 100% sure that the PC Speaker was not hooked up to the sound card?

The 2760 is going to have the best compatibility due to it having real OPL3 and being non-PnP. You can put up to 2x 16MB SIMMS in any of the AWE32 or SB32 cards for a total useable 28MB RAM for loading soundfonts. The 3620 and AWE64 will have a bit cleaner output, but the 2760 is going to be better …

Guessing the only real way to figure out exactly what you need is to test a good one from a card. What about testing CR12 or CR13. My guess is that they are the same.

Well, not seeing anything obvious. Those pins you unbent do go to the ROM, so it makes sense that those being unbent fixed it being able to play from the ROM. So the DOS test program is using the built in ROM for the test I am pretty sure. Windows is still showing 0 or 2048KB for the RAM?

I wonder if that is a board that came out of an OEM PC. I've got a couple of those boards but they have the sockets for the cache. They are nice boards, but the soldered in cache is lame.
