Re: Doom slowdowns on a Toshiba 2800-S202

It's possible that there is some fault in the hard drive, in addition to 4200RPM being very slow. Although normal for laptops of that era, most desktops were using 7200RPM drives at that time. I would try to obtain a 7200RPM drive for the laptop. It may speed it up noticeably in general.

Re: Unofficial Commander Keen games

Terminology is a sticky issue especially with games that weren't meant to be modded. Most of these mods feature very extensive patching of the executable code to add and modify features, and a few do go as far as modifying the 'flavor' of the game by making it into a vertical scrolling shooter, a …

It's even displayed somewhere in Winows if that happens; can't tell by heart where exactly, thought. I did a quick test of how Windows 98 SE sees devices with DOS …

Re: Dedicated Windows XP build

Personally, I'm just annoyed at the apparent stupidity of this build. If others who do this hobby annoy you why do you force yourself into it? The hobby doesn't annoy me, obviously. Just people who do it in what I perceive to be a stupid way. If you contemplate it, I think you will find it's the …
