Please wait until next version of sbdump will be done. With crc checking, and some fw classification mechanism integrated, it will be much easier to do massive dumps and checks.

DSP fw has absolutely no code related to FM (opl). It's designed for SB command processing/midi handling/ASP stuff. Access to FM chip done via Bus control/interface chip, and in case of external FM, is simple port decoding.

list CT4170 as "V4.13", but I have 4 x CT4170 cards here and they are all DSP V4.16 - that really starts to look very suspicious to me. I found already several websites list CT4170 as V4.13, that's really strange, because Retronn.DE card is made 1997 as mine four. I don't know... May be early 97 …

Next version of sbdump will be with integrated CRC32 calculation and comparing. So it will be easy to do fast repeated dumps and check results.

From one different dump it's hard to make any solid conclusion. If some other dump shows same picture - it's artifact of some ASP testing. If found other dump with few bits changed - it's sign of faulting ROM. Currently, I assume this is faulting ROM case, as ALL other dumps is absolutely the same …

Checked this dump from DerBaum. This dump has at location 0x172C value 0x00 (in known 4.13 it was 0x80). This byte is inside ASP old testing fw, this fw is inaccesible in any way and unused. Can it be intentional ? hmmm, dont know. It looks like a rom fault, not like intentional change. Effect on …

Btw, I have a idea about Variant B and C. 4.13 fw used only 6k of ROM. Top 2k is filled with some artifacts from early development stages - old ASP testing fw, and some sampled sines. In discrete '52 this all stuff programmed. But on integrated DSP, they just don't implement top 2k of ROM at all! …
