Re: More than a fast processor?

Well, today is my "search the forums" answering day, so please search the forums ;) This has been discussed sooo many times. The short result is: Yes, x86 CPUs already do some work natively (that's dynamic core), no, most soundcards can't help dosbox (except for MIDI wavetable synthesizers and real …

Re: help i does not work

ms-dos (and dr-dos, for that matter) emm386 did provide dpmi, didn't it? I think it's really time to have an official utilities pack for dosbox, including all 3rd-party programs any dosbox user needs somewhen, dos32a, cwsdpmi, perhaps others?

Re: Kaillera and Dos Box....

Well, with that single-to-multiplayer thing I was referring to the posters in the referenced thread. Some people in that other forum seemed to believe that's possible. But read again the rest of the reply: on a NES, there was exactly one way to get two players in front of the screen: Each one took …

Re: Using the mouse without (auto)lock

Sure, it's not universally usable, but there's always the possibility to press Ctrl-F10 for those games, then it works like before. I've tested it the whole day (ahem, very serious scientific research, not that you think I played games ;) ) and found that even touch-the-border-to-scroll games work …

Re: Kaillera and Dos Box....

Well, forget it (mostly). Skimming over that thread I see someone thinking Kalliera could create a two-player 4d-stunts. That's impossible. On game consoles, multiplayer was standard (is there any console game for just one player?), so Kaillere makes sense there. Networking and Multiplayer on DOS …

Re: german keyboard

If you have a qwertz-layout _before_ loading keyb.com, you don't have an original version. Most likely, someone made some mapper changes for you (or you did that yourself). To correct y and z (they should be swapped before loading keyb), press Ctrl-F1 in dosbox and use the mapper to swap y and z …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

priestly, I was unable to get any crash anymore, not even the one I thought I was seeing. Can you find out more? Do you get a decent backtrace when you run it in gdb? EDIT: I am also unable to see performance problems of any kind. A quick non-representative check with the X-Com intro movie shows …

Re: help i does not work

It basically means your program didn't find DPMI, which is nothing to worry about. Download CWSDPMI (google is your friend) and put it into the same directory. Play with it a little, you will manage to get it running with a bit of fiddling around.

Re: The hatred of DosBox

Look at the wiki, there's a guide to building menus using batch files and the CHOICE command. No need to modify dosbox for such a menu, you can write your own. All you need is the upcoming config commands.

Re: debian and ctrl

Check that your window manager doesn't use the Ctrl-Fn keys. Many window managers (including KDE's default configuration) use them for their own purposes. In the case of KDE, you can reconfigure them in the control center (Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Shortcuts), other window manages …

Re: Problems with brightness

It may be your display that has problems with lower resolutions. Some CRT screens exhibit this behaviour when windows is set to high refresh rates. Things you could try: 1) Try fullfixed=true (fullresolution=800x600 or something suitable) and output=overlay/openglnb/opengl (don't use "surface"). 2) …

Re: The hatred of DosBox

Unfortunately, just like this forum, the supported games list is driven by users. If no one writes instructions how to get a game running, then there is nothing. The helpers in the forums who have more experience getting a game working can offer advice when asked, but often don't own, or even don't …

Re: 2xsai

They even used to release current versions, but not free (as in speech), only free as in beer, which has been problematic to combine with other open source components. With the 4.0 release, they want to release the windows version as real open source, as far as I know. I just don't know if they …

Re: how fast yo computer should be 4 dosbox?

I can only repeat What I Did Last Summer. It was a PentiumII 300MHz. Forget all action games, hope you have a decent audio chip (yamaha, soundblaster, definitely not onboard sound) that doesn't steal half of your CPU power, live with a sluggish mouse (because of frameskip 10 or even 20), and then …

Re: 2xsai

Funny thing... I've played M&M3 over and over again (back then and from then on until today, even though it's the buggy original disk version), and these days I hate the original look. OTOH, I barely knew Kult (never played it myself back then, only watched my brother giving up on it countless times …

Re: 2xsai

Well, thanks for advertising my work wihle I was ill ;) I've always been a fan of "looks so cool, could be a remake" look. But yesterday I decided to play through Kult (it's not as if it that takes long ;) ) without scaling and was surprised how nice it looked. If you really like some pixeling and …
