Re: frameskip question

shhhh, we're not deaf! But I agree, the limit could be raised a bit - I've found 25 to be a nice limit, on my old 300MHz laptop I've been around 15-20 usually. 100 is pointless, IMHO, since there's already very little difference between 15 and 20. Raising frameskip to 100 instead of 20 won't buy you …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

gulikoza, I'll attach an updated patch, please apply to a clean CVS checkout - it's essentially my binary build in an all-in-one patch. If it works in VS .NET, I will create the usual split patches. I hope I didn't miss anything. Look at src/gui/Makefile.am to see how the pre-build thing should work …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

What video hardware do you have? BTW, my last build was thoroughly b0rked, I'm just uploading a new one, testing that the latest changes for VS .NET didn't break anything. Gonna boot XP now to see if it works. EDIT: The new build works for me, even zlib1.dll is not a problem anymore. Funny thing. …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

Jiri, what app is that, and is it freely distributable? It sounds a bit like it's trying to use 15-bit graphics in a 16-bit mode. Or my VESA info struct may be buggy. Priestly, does http://garni.ch/~jwalt/dosbox-openglhq-win32.zip work for you? That's an earlier build I compiled on XP instead of …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

Priestlyboy: nice to see you back. I know that real-life stuff, otherwise I wouldn't fiddle with hq scaling for 1 1/2 years now ;) That's a funny bug you have there. It means someone called GFX_OpenGL_StartUpdate before GFX_OpenGL_SetSize was called. Does my binary build work for you (exchanging the …

Re: About compressed files mounting

QBix, are you going to use PhysFS or a hand-coded solution? I haven't used it yet, but PhysFS looks like exactly what we need: the ability to stack several sources, so that you could mount a directory, a zip file with game files and a zip with system files (dos32a for example). Read accesses are …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

Performance-wise, it's not as bad as it may sound. And there are people who prefer the rounded look of advmame. Using advmame + openglhq, they get (for example) 2x advmame scaling, and 2x openglhq on top of that, which will preserve advmames appearance but look better than bilinear interpolation. …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

software hq2x and openglhq are completely separate things which only share trigger values. Yes I agree, but uninformed user might think he needs to set both parameters to get hq2x scaling... Well, combined with your other idea about merging, we get... I don't know what we get. Difficult thing, as …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

403 error is fixed - now the page works. 16-bit mode can't work with output=overlay, as we don't have a colorspace conversion from 16-bit RGB to YUV. As it is, we can't even determine if a given output mode is RGB or YUV. In 8-bit modes this is handled via the palette, but 16 bit doesn't have a …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

I've finally got my cross-compilation environment working, so expect regular win32 test binaries alongside my source patches: http://garni.ch/Software/dosbox/ These will be latest-CVS all-features-enabled all-my-patches-applied no-foreign-patches-applied binaries, so probably nice for daily work …

Re: Hq2x / Hardware OpenGL-HQ scaling

Well, just as long as he watches his wording next time - I'd like to see him sitting for hours every day all week long to get that darn thing working on windows. SDL and OpenGL are cool and cross-platform, but I managed to step on every little remaining incompatibility between linux and win ;) Jiri, …

Re: booting Windows 95 - Really :)

I have a few win95 games that won't run on Wine (including some which only run in 256 colors, which is difficult with my graphics card) And then there is that program called "dosbox", they only have a windows binary, and I don't want to compile it by myself, so I could finally try that 😉

Re: System Shock is laggy

My experience with sshock showed: dynamic core is too unstable to run it reliably (but you just try it, perhaps it got better since I last tried it), and my Athlon64 3700+ is barely able (and I mean it) to play it in SVGA. VGA is OKish. I really doubt dosbox will run system shock on your PC. You …

Re: ZSNES crashes DOSBox often

zsnes uses SDL just like DosBox, so it should run wherever dosbox runs. Of course you are right, tracking bugs is nice, but the ultimate goal is to _play_, and using a native port is easier, faster and generally more enjoyable (screen resolutions, hardware acceleration, etc.).

Re: Gravis Ultrasound Installer Crash

If the midi demos work, your install should be ok. Crackling noise can have many causes: too many cycles is one (10.000 with normal core is probably too much for your CPU, try 5000 or dynamic CPU), and another possible problem is your mixer sampling rate (rate=22050 or rate=32000 is usually …
