fair points, would too have prefered to have MIDI as an option. as for the compressed tracks, i can't remember the quality loss to badly stick out last time i played this to be honest, and at least this should get rid of those typical little game pauses upon CD track changes.

i'm surprised that the battle.net edition for win95 hasn't been suggested; it has the add-on already built in, runs pretty solid in my experience and has the speed sensitivity issues fixed.

i didn't say 30 year old caps can't fail, i was rather specifically referring to that 0.4uf reading which, if legit, points at a catastrophical failure of some description rather than regular aging. from my own experience even certain bloated and leaking caps can measure with fully intact …

that's interesting, are you really sure that cap leaked? it's kind of hard to tell much from the pictures you've posted. what device did you use for the capacitor readout? in-circuit measurements aren't that reliable - both that measurement and the idea that a cap of that size would fail to that …

first, if you haven't, check the capacitors on the digital board - the chance of the stock caps leaking might be approaching 100% these days. otherwise, try GM mode or a full factory reset; i forgot what to press for those, but it's described in the manual.

interestingly software still picks the v5 5500 up as an AGP 2x device with sideband addressing - guess 3dfx did that for compatibility purposes. the driver also has that AGP command FIFO setting.
