Re: Style problems/bugs

in Milliways
I'm having an issue with the search box. If I search for a two-word term with a space in the middle, like mobility radeon (not in quotes), I get lots of results. Then I hit the gear icon, change the 'sort by' field to 'post time', and hit 'go', and I get the page that says 'No matching posts were …

Re: SIV support for 386/486/586 class + Alpha CPUs and 3dfx + S3 + SiS + Matrox + XGI + old ATI + NVidia GPUs - Testing

Here's an updated report from my Shuttle XPC running 5.47 Beta 03 showing that the [menus] crash is indeed fixed . Nice work! It still doesn't read much info about the GF3 in that system under Win98 but I understand there isn't much that can be done about it. I have some other platforms and GPUs to …

Re: Tualatin Laptops

I had a Thinkpad x24 (1.13GHz) which was a pretty neat little machine. Performance was decent, but never felt quite up to par with an equivalent desktop system, there was someting in the power management or whatever that held it back a little. The onboard Mobility Radeon 7000 was gimped by only 16 ( …

Re: How to: Imaging/cloning a harddrive, using Linux only....

"status=progress" is a super useful option to add to the end of the 'dd' command (exactly like that, no '-' or '--'.) It's a fairly recent addition so won't work in super old distros or Mac OSX/BSD. For example: dd if=/dev/sdx of=image.img bs=128k status=progress (Note that I'm not piping into gzip, …

Re: PowerVR Fun Thread

@leilei: nice work! Will have to check out Flycast. Let me know if you need better real hardware captures to refine the thing. Speaking of which, someone ran the PowerVR version of Tomb Raider on real hardware on a GDQ stream. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, so don't know if he mentions how …

Re: Ancient DOS Games Webshow

I got a laugh at the bobbleheads cropped out on static torsos. That would have been exponentially more difficult to do in 1992 than it is now, and I can't even imagine why they would go to the trouble. Would have loved to hear an example of that stilted dialog.

Re: What game are you playing now?

Gave the demo of the awkwardly-named Antigraviator a try. It's pretty much what you'd expect: grav.jpg Nothing original here, but it's quite good! Despite appearances, I'd place this more in the F-Zero camp than the Wipeout camp, as there's no pitch control and the physics are much simpler. Music …

Re: Need for speed 3 Hot Pursuit on Win98SE

Are there different retail versions of NFS3 floating around? I installed it off an original CD on fast P3 with a Quadro FX1000 (~GF FX5800) running Windows XP a while ago and I was able to play through the whole game with no issues. Don't remember what display driver I used but it wasn't anything " …
