There were quite a few ergonomic and chording keyboards out around that time which were very nice and quite expensive.

I don't believe SB16 cards support the SB Pro type of MIDI interface (correct me if I'm wrong, guys!) The SB-MIDI interface works via DSP commands. Afaik, SB16 is fully backward-compatible with these commands. The programming manual claims as much anyway, see chapter 5: https://pdos.csail.mit.edu …

You need to open the speakers up and pump the volume potentiometer full of De-oxit while working it through it's full range of motion. Over time, it's built up some corrosion to the point where it's now making intermittent contact. Cleaning the pot should resolve the issue.

I'm running one of those. It handles a Sempy 3000, SB Live, m3d, and Radeon 9100 just fine. The only thing I find limiting with it is the small number of expansion slots offered by the form factor.
