I really think you'll need an oscilloscope to properly diagnose this, but I'd certainly check voltages into the amp chip (the LM1877). Pin 14 should be +Vcc, pin 3 (and others) should be ground, pin 1 should be floating.

The illegal clones of the YMF262 are usually 99-100% accurate, but I'm curious if the ALS100 has the companion DAC built in or if that's also a clone chip (maybe the 74F244)?

For simplicity, I'd recommend installing with the internal adapter (as long as you're not running into capacity limits). You can always swap later.

For the first video, the PAS is a great card, but the PAS16 isn't completely compatible with it. For the second video, the Jazz16 chipset is really nice, but it isn't completely compatible with the PAS16.

Some sound cards need -5V, but it's not a hard rule. It depends very much on the design of the card itself. Is the card set to output for speakers or line out? On the other side, what are you using to listen to the card?

Do what you like on your own time, but I think this site doesn't want to deal with any sticky legal issues. Also, "Abandonware" sometimes has changes introduced in the software that can make troubleshooting problematic.
