I know this is trivially doable using Apache, so you could presumably proxy everything together using Apache or NGINX. I don't use IIS, so I'm not sure if MS includes a method to make this happen.

Well, you can do it in software with the K6-2+ and K6-III+ CPUs (using SETMUL). I wouldn't be too concerned about it being complicated. Multiple systems will do the trick just fine, though. If you have the space, more retro is a good thing. 😀

It's a good CPU for retro computing, as it can be slowed down to the level of a 386DX using cache disabling and multiplier changes. The K6-III+ and K6-2+ can do this in software, so grab one of those CPUs instead if you can. I probably wouldn't bother spending much extra for the K6-III over the K6-2 …

You can use a K6-2 or PMMX to cover a performance range from 386DX to Win98 era using cache disabling and multiplier switching. A 286-16 with turbo switch will cover everything down to an XT.

The only limitation is a lack of 3D hardware acceleration. So, if you're using the patches for PowerVR or 3Dfx in Windows, you'll loose some of the graphical touches you've been used to.

Start with Phil's instructions for Win9x DOS mode, boot to DOS mode. IIRC, you'lll need to install the DOS version to another directory using INSTALL.EXE from the CD. http://www.philscomputerlab.com/ms-dos-mode-tutorials.html

+1 Logitech M-BJ58 USB and PS/2, cheap, ubiquitous, durable +1 Logitech MX510 USB and PS/2, comfortable, not wireless. I've almost worn the finish off mine, the printing and stickers are long gone. +1 IBM PS/2 "bar o soap" The most comfortable mouse buttons ever

As long as a chipset can talk HT, it can generally be designed into a board for any processor from K8 to Bulldozer (not APUs, though). Technically you could drive an FX-8350 with a K8T800, as long as the board was equipped with the right VRMs, socket, memory traces, and DIMM sockets.
