Apparently the cheap USB adapters work fine once you fully populate the PCB. Also, does anyone have any recommendations for USB adapters that combine MIDI and line level sound output?

You can do a ghetto fan mod sometimes with zip ties to allow the use of a 60 or 80mm fan.

In my experience (I own both YMF-71x, Aztech, OPTi cards and so on), Aztech cards, when coupled with a genuine OPL3 chip, are very compatible with everything you throw at them. And, unlike the Audician 32, can hold full sized daughterboards just fine. Unless he has issues with his games I'd just …

Considering the fact that a big chunk of the 300A supply were installed and run 450 mhz without even trying hard, it's no surprise it was the way to go back then.

Yes, it's for WSS. Some DOS programs can natively play WSS (with greater or lesser success). If you've disabled WSS, that would also explain why the 16 bit diagnostics failed.

Yes, it does have WSS. Some early Aztechs support Covox as well apparently, but I doubt yours is one of those.

This is the Win 3.1 driver set for the Sound Galaxy Pro II (b model), an AZT2316 based card. DOS utilities are in the UTILITY sub folder. Hope this helps!

Those guys are still around. I actually used to live two blocks away from their shop a few years ago. I think they're equipped to do some warranty work for Lenovo and HP, but I've never owned one of their white box systems. Certainly they're not the worst vendor that Winnipeg has ever had.
