Age of Empires CD/A music without Daemon Tools?

in Windows
Are there CD image mounters other than Daemon Tools that support CD audio tracks? Or are there other ways to run Age of Empires/AoE2 with CD/A music? For AoE2 there's "UserPatch" with MP3 support, but I'm not sure if it handles audio the same as the original game.

Comparison of widescreen game fixers?

in Windows
Is there any site that compares widescreen patchers when multiple options exist for the same game? For example, for PoP: Sands of Time there's at least: Peixoto's, PS2Wide, and UniWS. For NFS:Underground: ThirteenAG's and the above UniWS. Etc.

Re: CD-R media covers

in Milliways
There used to be a site, a sort of database, with tech info on hundreds of types of CD-R media. ATIP, exact byte size, product UPC, etc. I think it also included photos. I don't remember what the site was called but I wonder if it still exists. EDIT: Found it in an old bunch of bookmarks. The site …

Re: Hercules' 3D Prophet 4500 DirectX Version?

in Windows
What are some examples of 16-bit resource games? But how's dithering helpful if the game uses 16-bit only resources? If they are 32-bit but the game sets the render output to 16-bit mode, isn't it better to just use some wrapper to force 32-bit output?

Re: Hercules' 3D Prophet 4500 DirectX Version?

Uses standard OpenGL and DirectX no weird proprietary API or Wrappers. Supporting D3D/OGL is not the same as supporting it well, particularly when game developers didn't check on this card. The main thing here is that 16bit games will look better with this card and it has solid 32bit performance …

What do you want it for? If for general-purpose gaming, Kyros are non-standard cards that will likely have frequent compatibility problems. GeForce 4 Ti is a much better idea for Win98 gaming. Maybe a Radeon 9500 Pro, but I don't know what's the Win98 driver situation there. Check out this older …

Re: Doom 3 performance

Turn on FXAA and see if that fixes the issue. For some bizarre reason, antialiasing causes major frame drops unless you have FXAA enabled It's a type of antialiasing that's less taxing than the default MSAA. I'm not sure I like it, but I'll have a look again the next time. It held 60fps without a …

Re: Doom 3 performance

in Windows
Thanks. It was with the latest v1.31. Haven't tried older versions, but even if faster I would want the fixes. Performance could be better in parts, but generally it was fine.

Re: Doom 3 performance

AAx4 is generally fine here as well. It's the x8 and x16 modes that are too slow. There are a few spots where x4 drops down to consistent 30fps, but it's not common. In one spot I disabled vsync to see the effect, and the result was about 50 fps. I guess frames there draw consistently a few ms too …
