so this is just a guess but: 430fx is a pci 2.0 (and its an early one i think), the 440lx is pci 2.1 compliant, while i cannot find any specific info for the m64, one specific card was pci 2.2; i may be entirely wrong here though... i can't find any strict information saying the 2 versions of pci …

what does not work without that driver? why do you need one? i don't remember having installed any windows 3.1 driver for my vibra16 for example; i would not expect any hardware driver to work with a software emulated device - hardware drivers touch hardware, they usually don't just call other …

iirc with windows its ok to make a backup copy after installing what you need and cleanse the filesystem once in a while to copy over the original filesystem; its pretty quick too; iirc can be done mostly with xcopy or some such;

it was my observation, that when you have a very weak cpu in comparison, the oldest driver is usually the best one; also not sure, but the differences here are minimal, i had up to 20% framerate drop after upgrading my driver for gf3 ti 500 with an athlon

so you need an at bus card, maybe working on full isa when available, that understands fixed point numbers and consists mainly of unified shaders as these use little bandwidth ;p easy
