Probably the main board is not compatible with EDO RAM. Well, to my knowledge, a 486 VLB board supporting EDO is more of an oddity than the norm. Other motherboards don't have this limitation. It is a bit unusual to have this issue with a 486 board though...any chance this board is a server board? …
