Re: Can't start DOOM 2 and Wolfenstein under DOS 6.22

in DOS
Yeah, well. Just when I basically gave up on this machine, I found a solution. It was memory, after all. I found a guy who gave me a free genuine Intel motherboard with Pentium 60 and a bunch of RAM sticks, so I just tried them all. Here is what I know: - my system definitely didn't support EDO RAM. …

Have you tried UNIVBE yet? I don't think UNIVBE will help him one bit considering Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM only use VGA capabilities. UNIVBE is for SVGA. The Cirrus Logic cards are rock solid when it comes to VGA compatibility. To the OP, does your computer have any external cache? Perhaps disabling …

jheronimus try other video card Not an easy thing to do. This is an integrated card that produces video output through the motherboard connector (along with power and other things) directly to the screen. Even if I get a new ISA videocard (I don't have any) and hook up an external monitor, there is …

So, I've tried CT2940, installed the CTCM and the drivers from this collection. I've also installed the floppy 1.666 version of DOOM2 and added DOS4G 2.01 version (though there didn't seem to be a DOS4GW.exe file there in the first place, so I'm not sure it's using an updated version). I now …

ESS soundcards are pretty bad, get a different one and stuff should work again. SB16 should still be cheap and plentiful. Well, I don't have any with OPL, but this is what I have: - Creative Vibra 16 CT2940 - Creative AWE64 CT4500 with extra RAM - Creative Vibra 16XV CT4170 - Creative Vibra 16C …

I just checked the source code. Wolfenstein 3D uses EMS and XMS memory if available, but no DOS extender. It seems there is a kind of hardware problem or conflict in your PC, and that's not specific to DOS4GW. Could you post your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT? Here you go, thanks! autoexec.bat LH …

Also, correct me if I'm wrong. A lot of you seem to assume that there is something wrong with my RAM, and so, less resource-hungry games are fine, while DOOM hits some kind of a damaged segment (that older games don't reach) in my RAM and crashes. I've just tried playing Elder Scrolls: Arena and …

Darn it. I have a DOS game (US Navy Fighters) that uses the Phar Lap DOS extender. This is incompatible with some motherboards unless you disable BIOS Shadowing. On my Packard Bell Multimedia C110, this game does not work and I have no BIOS settings to adjust, so I'm out of luck. On my other DOS …

Are there any BIOS settings with the word "Shadow" in it that you can toggle between enabled and disabled? Different BIOSes refer to the setting differently, so it might be called BIOS Shadow, Shadow Memory, Shadow RAM, etc. Try toggling them one at a time between tests to see if any of them might …

Either. Since neither Doom2 nor Speedsys are working, I'm just wondering if there is a hardware conflict that could be determined quickly by running without the sound card installed. Tried that: removed the sound card, booted under F5. Speedsys doesn't work. DOOM2 allows me to a bit further (I can …

Re: Can't start DOOM 2 and Wolfenstein under DOS 6.22

Have you physically pulled the sound card out and tried? Do you mean, to run DOOM2 or to run speedsys? Make sure any sound card settings are REM'd out of your autoexec and config files. Speedsys does not like EMM386. Do you have an add-in graphics card you can try? Any BIOS settings you've toggled? …
