24-bit and 32-bit gives the same result. The extra 8-bits are either unused or used for transparency. It is just that 32-bit is a practical amount to read and write.

Finally! I haven't tried it yet, but OpenDune with Hi-Res and improved controls is the ideal combination. There have always been remakes around. I also have the Tahati+RIO=Monterey bundle, but have not worked with it lately. Regarding the effects, I reduced them with the RIO control panel in Windows, but intercepted the midi signals that the control panel send out, so now I can send the sysex code for 'reduced effects' with some DOS program …

See attachment, It does not get any smaller then this, 440BX, P-III 500..700MHz, 128MB. But no PCI/ISA, not even a 12 Volt rail, so not a real option. Oh wait the PDF does mention PCI and ISA.

The smallest one I have is the Intel SR440BX. mATX = Not that small really, though it does contain a full spec Nvidia chip with RAM. Sound chip is Creative (Ensoniq) Audio PCI 64V.

Be glad for the Intel 945 video. If it would have an NVidia Chip instead, it would be the 7600GS and the laptop would be at risk of an early death because of the 7600GS overheating the solder.

One can also take any 12Volt DC fan that gives plenty cooling at stock speed, and then connect it to a "fan speed controller" to run it at about 70% speed. The controller just reduces the voltage. In my experience most fans are quiet at 70% speed.
