I see Creative has Win7 drivers for the Audigy 2 ZS. Does that mean it'll work in Win10? If so, does it even stand a chance against modern integrated audio?

My pick for DOS PCI is S3 Virge GX. It's the fastest S3 PCI card in DOS, very compatible, and period correct. If you can get a hold of an ARK2000PV card, this is the fastest period correct DOS PCI card I've ever tested. Cirrus Logic 5446 is also very good (a hair slower than the Virge GX) and if you …

Disabling L1 is fine. You'll actually probably be closer to a 386 33Mhz with L1 disabled, which is still more than fast enough for that game. The goal is to get the game playable. And with your cpu, you don't have a lot of options with setmul. Basically, just L1. It's possible your cpu supports the …

There is a small component close to the PCI connector that has visible damage, so I attribute that component to the text mode issues. With a DX2/66, you'll probably be at 25 fps or less. Use Phil's DOS benchmark kit to test Doom. The closer to 25 you get, the closer to ideal. I'd be curious, post the results from both cards!

Thanks! Side question: this uh, is faster than a Mach32 right? I basically got it free but I'm gonna be pretty dissapointed if this doesn't make Doom 2 playable at good settings. Without knowing the rest of your system specs, it's hard to tell. Doom gets about 25 fps on a fast DX2/66, for reference …

if agp 4 and 8 perform the same, then what is it that stops the scaling in DOS high resolutions? I think it has something to do with the lack of graphical acceleration due to no drivers in pure DOS. LFBE utils provide some of that. FWIW, I do see a difference between PCI and AGP with the same …

does the BIOS have multiplier/FSB control? Might be able to switch cpu speeds from there. I would guess that at the very least, it would boot up at 133 when you put the 166 in. But I see no harm in trying.

Are there any BIOS options that might help you out? PIO/DMA, etc? Have you tested the RAM? I'm not sure if memtest86 will run on a 486... Have you looked for updated chipset drivers? Confirm there are not IRQ conflicts?
