At Christmas I will be replacing my 8800GTX with a 750Ti. This in a C2D 2.67Ghz XP machine. I expect a pretty good bump in performance, with a huge drop in power consumption and heat generation. Good luck with your upgrade, hope the GTX 480 turns into a nice bump up for you.

FYI, Tom2D is not working OOTB on Win98. Asking for MSVBVM60.DLL. Haven't had time to track that file down yet. edit: all it took was a 1MB download from MS--VB6 Runtime. Runs fine on Win98. Thanks!

Of the games you mentioned, Doom would be "most playable" on a DX2 system, but it will still be sluggish no matter what graphics card you choose. These games play best on a Pentium platform. Tetrium, I agree 100% with everything you said. I'm all for vanilla cases myself. Sometimes I am forced to use something a little flashier because of some other reason (airflow, graphics card clearance) and it makes me a little ill. 🤣.

I bought a P2-333 on ebay once that did not come with a heatsink. This was my make-shift fix. I only used it for benchmarking, so I wasn't too concerned about long-term effects. There is a good dollop of thermal grease underneath.
