What version of SETUPSA are you running? Mine is 179,536 bytes, dated 4/24/97. This might also make a difference.

So in comparing the Audician to the CT2800 mixer settings, CT2800(left)/Audician(right) Voice=SB MIDI=FM CD=CD ??=WAVE @James-F: there doesn't seem to be a mixer setting on the CT2800 that equates to the WAVE mixer setting on the Audician. So on the Audician, if SB=WAV/PCM, then what is the WAVE …

@firage: You don't mention PCM/SB. I'm actually familiar with what you posted. I'm clear on what FM/MIDI is, just not clear on what James means by PCM/SB (and why my CT2800 mixer doesn't have a separate volume for PCM or SB).

Can you further define the difference between FM and PCM as well as which sound cards it applies to? I see that you equate PCM with SB, which is how my Audician seems to define it (since SETUPSA has both an SB and FM mixer setting). Is PCM/SB the same as Adlib? Lots of options. If you have room for two systems, you can use the P3 for Win98 and the Packard Bell for pure DOS. The P3 is not ideal for older games, as it has fewer slowdown options with setmul. But the Packard Bell, even with a P200, will not be able to handle the later (1999-2002) games well. I …

This is next to impossible, as the PCI board has a different chipset, so it's hard to isolate just VLB vs PCI. I do have one Acer OEM board that has both, but I don't have a single card in both types :) The ET4000 would be great to compare ISA vs VLB vs PCI, but prices are out of control it seems. …

That's in that 3% margin of error, so I consider it a tie. Interesting though, that when there is a difference, it's always the Intel that is on top. 😀

As gdjacobs asked, DOS or Win? For DOS, my top choice is TNT2 M64 (if you don't care about period-correctness). It's the fastest AND most compatible I've tested on my Pentium 1 system. I'm not sure how a TNT2 M64 would do in Win9x on a Pentium 1. Maybe it would be more than enough still?
