Diamond Viper V330 4MB with Riva 128ZX chip?

I recently found a "Viper V330 NLX" AGP with a Riva 128ZX chip on it. I was under the mistaken impression that the ZX was faster, but apparently this chip was only created to allow for 8MB of memory and a faster RAMDAC for higher resolutions. Problem is, this card is only 4MB and there doesn't …

Re: Best "modern" GFX card and driver for K6 system

I use a GF4 Ti4400 with my K6-2 500Mhz system. Vast overkill, I know, but it's stable & the performance seems OK. I get 27.3 fps in Quake 3 @ 1024x768 with the settings all on high. My P2-300 (w/ EDO memory) and Radeon 7000 PCI only gets 15 fps, so nVidia's driver really does seem to be easier on …

Re: Rendition Verite V2200 BIOS

Nice find! The V2200 is quite uncommon. And aren't scrappers savages? I've had a lot of really nice old hardware come to me with missing back plates and BIOS chips lately. Really rare and useful stuff that has been stripped of parts that I wouldn't be able to fabricate even if I had the tools. …

Re: OPL2 sound card ID?

Very unusual card! The ESS ES488 is fairly uncommon. I don't think I've ever seen an ISA sound card with stereo rca outputs, 3.5" jacks and no game port. As jmarsh said, try using it as a standard soundblaster compatible... Not Pro or 16.

Re: Best "modern" GFX card and driver for K6 system

What are you intending to play on this system? A K6-2 will be quite underpowered for any games made after 1999 or so. For retro systems they're mainly useful for playing DOS games since the clock speed and cache allow them to be slowed down for older games. If you are having speed issues, I doubt …

Re: Voodoo II found in Midway arcades

I have had a couple of these (still have one). They are interesting cards. They seem to be intended for low resolutions with higher quality textures compared to an 8MB model. If you've got a monitor with a second VGA input (or a VGA switch box) they work quite nicely. To be honest, a Voodoo 2 runs …

Re: Choosing the right sound card ?

Yes. I have a CM-64 and the cm-32p functionality is used in x68000 games. Does raise the question of whether the 32P can be used as a solo device though for the same purpose though, as I don't have one. I can guarantee it works in the combined CM-64 unit, I specifically tried Gemini Wing which uses …

Re: Help me choose a sound card ?

Which external MIDI device provides the most realistic sound as the game maker intended for the sound file ? So, it depends what you're doing. These are the main modules which people composed on: MT-32 (old, no headphone port on back) MT-32 (new, with headphone port) CM-32L CM-32P (L & P can be …

Re: Need help from Soundblaster Pro CT1330A owner!

Seems odd that all of the games I've tried wouldn't be backward compatible with dual OPL2. I was under the impression that anything that can do OPL3 (stereo) would be backward compatible with the SB Pro's dual OPL2 stereo. And anything that is just using mono OPL2 should at least come from both …
