I don't have an X32, so I can't confirm whether any of these drivers would be compatible. The typical spec sheet sounds similar, but none seem to give specific model numbers or anything.

In a case like that, clearly Windows 98SE fits that need better. I'm not saying Windows ME is better than 98SE, they just fit different needs.

Does the CD-ROM drive appear in Device Manager? If not or it's not working properly, then perhaps the motherboard chipset drivers need to be installed. I realize you're using a Pentium III computer, but there is always a chance Windows 98SE doesn't support your motherboard.

Feel free to post whether the drivers here work good on your Thinkpad T42 or not. It's possible these may work on other similar Thinkpad models too. I don't have any other Pentium M Thinkpads to confirm though.

I think the ATi Catalyst driver I'm using is different or newer than 6.2. Are you using standard Catalyst driver packages? I more frequently use those from OEM builders like Dell and IBM.

There is? I thought the RAM slot under the keyboard was the same one as under the laptop itself. Windows ME gets funky if you go past 1GB, doesn't it?

It really is a good OS, just as good as 98SE. ME's built-in USB mass storage has been really handy as of late. I don't know if it helps, but this Thinkpad T42 has only one RAM slot, thus 1GB is the most it can do.

DirectX 9.0c is required for later made ATi Catalyst drivers. I've never had a problem with the unofficial DirectX 9.0c installer, I don't remember where I got it from.

Just a heads up, WPA is almost impossible to get working on 9x. WPA2 is completely unsupported. WEP and unencrypted work fine with just about any 9x wireless card.

Windows 9x only gets the Blue Screen of Death or illegal operations if you are doing something very wrong, like forcing a bad driver or ending programs that are in the middle of accessing hardware. I've used 98SE for a very long time and it behaves for me just fine.

Well, it doesn't help Windows Me looks and sounds like 2000. They couldn't be any more different though. One is 9x, the other is NT. I'm happy 9x got one more big update with Windows Me, it's great for 9x games if you don't need DOS that badly and if you have newer hardware.
