Added a SB Live! to the machine today. This thing is pretty much full now. To make space for the live, I removed the bracket from the Matrox M3D and placed it in the PCI slot shared with the ISA Slot. Installed the Live! using the Audigy 2 Drivers, but not installing any of the SB16 Legacy stuff as …

Pickup up this 6 channel mixer to mix a number of soundcard sources. Was £28 delivered off Amazon, and for the money I'm mighty impressed.

Thanks! The bus speed control through software does sound very nice :-) The only "problem" I see would be the need for a slotket (I usually try to avoid these for my builds). Can anyone identify this 486 PCI motherboard? I picked it up this week, and despite the damaged simm slot it works. It has no markings except for Rev 1.1. It looks like a Soyo SY-030G but this has white ISA Slots. The bios string reads 03/24/95-SIS-469-497/A/B-2A4IBA11-44.

Thanks for all the help and advise given in this thread. Happy to report everything is working fine now. I've installed Win 3.11 and the sound cards now (Awe32 & Maui). All working nicely.

Well in that case I suggest you add a line reading: DRIVPARM=/D:0 /F:7 To your config.sys. This will force DOS to treat the drive as a 1.44MB regardless of what it thinks the BIOS equipment list says. maxtherabbit.. your suggestion worked! Have you done the initial EISA setup for this mainboard using the EISA utility, installed the .cfg / .ovl files for this mainboard? Maybe there is some old configuration still stored in the DALLAS NVRAM. Some mainbords demand even regular ISA cards to be configured with the EISA utility. After …

If I use the Super I/O Card, I disable the floppy controller on the EISA card. If I take the Super I/O out, I obviously enable the Floppy Controller on the EISA card. But either way, both exhibit the same behaviour. What I'm struggling to fathom is why it works when booting from a the DOS install …

On typical 486 computers, drives don't get "recognized", but you need to enter the correct drive type in the CMOS setup. Make sure A: is not configured as 1.2MB drive.
