Re: EMM386.EXE D=64 FRAME=E000 /I=B000-B7FF RAM explanation, warning-fix Option ROM or RAM detected within page frame

I seem to recall that CD-Man 2.0 and Prehistorik 1 did not work for me using I=B000-B7FF, but they do work using the I=B400-B7FF flag. I guess it just has to do with whatever random region they happened to use. Hi, using 'I=B400-B7FF' actually can work since monochrome memory region addressing is …

Re: EMM386.EXE D=64 FRAME=E000 /I=B000-B7FF RAM explanation, warning-fix Option ROM or RAM detected within page frame

Hi, It seems there's some misunderstanding here: Nvidia Roms eating whole A000-B7FF - 128KB 1. A000-B7FF is only 96K not 128K so this range is rather A000-BFFF. 2. A000-AFFF is always used by VGA as Video RAM (not ROM!) for Graphic modes. It's vendor independent (old VGA cards like S3 Trio's also …

Re: X58 PC+ Yamaha744 sound card-pure Dos7.1- compatibility list and research, work in progress- gurus needed

In your case you can try a hack (the way I accidentally discovered WC mode many years ago): 1st boot into Win95 or 98 with installed driver for your GPU. It enables WC. Then reboot Windows to DOS mode... If you have >4GB RAM try to play with memory remap option in BIOS if you have any. Yes, I have …

Re: X58 PC+ Yamaha744 sound card-pure Dos7.1- compatibility list and research, work in progress- gurus needed

I think the most succinct way to put it is that very few (any?) games are incompatible with EMM386/protected mode per se . Only when you venture into the realm of the low-level optimization tools that you mentioned does EMM386 become a problem, and you only need them for a handful of very specific …

Re: To go native resolution or not to go native resolution?

in Milliways
No idea about the exact scaling algorithm, it was the default one. I suspect bicubic/bilinear scaling in case of the 4K display because of the experienced blurriness. I use mainly AIDA64's Monitor diagnostics. I recommend this or similar utilities since they can reveal more problems than games ( …

Re: To go native resolution or not to go native resolution?

My main argument is/was the following: no matter the display size and resolution the same problem as displaying 1080p standard resolution/materials on 1440p screens can manifest itself even on 4K/8K screens when these screens have to display materials/standard resolutions that have to be scaled by …

Re: To go native resolution or not to go native resolution?

No, since I have not had the opportunity to try/test 8K displays so far :). But my experience with 4K and HD displays is the following: similarly as 1080p material does not look any better on a 4K display than on native 1080p displays (what's more quite the contrary, so I strongly think this is just …
