Re: Heavy Gear 2 CD Audio help needed

in Windows
I have found the IAS files including the main 1.58 API installer applicable to HG2. http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1148&menustate=0 There was a thing in their FAQ about a CD-check issue, particularly with Hitachi DVD drives. They suggest the issue is to do with the drive and a …

Re: The way to detect OPL3 clone

Hmm the 8738 did have DOS and 9x drivers back in the day. I've got hold of the older files (I call it the build 639 hiatus, as they stayed on that build for years until they started doing updates and the PCIe budget variants) - I've done an upload on vogonsdrivers including the DOS installer and the …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Hello, I've not been following this post for a while. I own a "Value" and "Universal" type of these and was involved in testing. I have a limited amount of time for testing before I travel for christmas, but whats happening? Always ready to help out @dreamblaster.

Re: The VIA ITX DOS Computer

I'm very excited, I've just got an EPIA-800 boxed on ebay. Cost a fair bit due to shipping from USA to UK. I do have some nice STB Voodoo 2's at mums house, but it's hard to know what to do with a single PCI slot. I'm wanting to use it as a DOS / Win98 system (probably dual-boot Win2k and would like …

Re: Sound Blaster 16 Clones

CMI = C-Media. The CMI8738 was the onboard solution for many until Realtek took over in the mid-00's. the CMI8330 was the first I remember seeing, often on-board PC Chips Baby-AT boards, and the CMI8338 more on Pentium II slot boards - also sold on cards as seen here. I think the 8738 was PCI based …

Re: PcChips sucks!

I didn't know this thread was a thing! I used to work for the "outfit" that sold through Micro Mart (UK) that was Protek (Europe) Limited. I am VERY familiar with PC Chips boards. I have built on a TX-Pro II and an M598 "SX Pro" myself too. I currently own an M811 Athlon XP DDR266 board and am using …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

I hope serge keeps getting good feedback and orders for this I think he's done a sterling job considering it's not the core dream-chip wavetable business. I'm thrilled to have been allowed to take part in the development of this card and the fact that it's actually developed from its predecessor …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

From my experiences I would advise against using the shared PCI / ISA slot as they have shared resources, and it's not quite "true" ISA (uses PCI reserved IRQs, may not be able to secure and int. etc). The first ISA slot (eg ISA 3 in the diagram) seems to be the best option for compatibility. With …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Hello - OK I''m now properly testing the new Simmconnn universal. I can confirm (as user above) that it works 100% with the final OEM CT4520 board using 32mb memory. I'm using some Kingston ValueRAM 32mb EDO as I think I mentioned above and this is performing well. I was having some issues under DOS …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Hello all. I can confirm that the SIMMconn universal is also working well! I have a question for those of you more seasoned to having an expanded AWE64 though, what is the trick to having MIDI support back under DOS mode games? Does the original soundfont need to be installed or a specific one? I …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

There were different versions. I have one that states 1995 in the about box (first release?) From Archive.org I can tell there was a '96 and a '98 release. There's also talk of an improvement between '98 v2.08 and v2.53 - which I think must be the final release of the program. It seems to work well …

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

Well done Serge too this is proto 1 and it works perfectly. If you guys want to buy up some compatible memory in advance, out of the 3 chip types I tried this worked: Kingston ValueRAM KVR8X32-60ET/32. (selling for approx 15 euro per pair).

Re: Simmconn AWE64 Adapter

It works guys!!!! Took 3 different sticks to find a compatible SIMM but I have one. Even though it's a "Value" I have 28mb available! Very cool, perhaps a code fix? Actually I have a request guys - does anyone have AweVBank 98 or the "SFmaxx" that was supposed to follow? I found an old (1995) …
