Check the PSU indeed, check the caps and then try to find if there isn't a hot spot on the board (maybe one of the MOSFETs is shorted ? I guess I could check this with some debug-fu on my machine ? Shadow in a Xt..? Dont think so. Maybe A000 is the location of the 2nd ROM socket. But thats where the VGA-RAM should be... Well I know it's uncommon, but everything in that machine is uncommon so that may not be entirely out of question …

Well I'm not sure it's actually dried thermal compound. I wonder if it's not some kind of thermal glue (Or maybe it became like glue after 22 years). Maybe I'll replace it at some point. But so far so good.

The problem I have is that I can install things on the HDD, but I can't boot from it, and I'd like to access the CMOS setup because I'm curious what settings I can mess with in there (That'd also let me get rid of the message "Run SETINIT.EXE" at POST)
