The original pentium was made in 1993, so this may mean that problem appeared on the Pentium Pro (which was made in ... 1995 !) and NOT the original Pentium. If somebody ever designs some way to check this, comparing Pentium Pros with regular pentiums could give interesting results.

The 9th pin is used to avoid puting the header upside-down. However, beware, the pinout on these motherboard often differ to what we have nowadays. Look at the manual of your board to see which pin does wha. On my AT slot 1 I had to swap pins on my USB header

In the first place, yes, SX chips were rejected DXs, but once the manufacturing process became more efficient, they still made SXs, because their core was much smaller, so they could produce more 486SXs in a row, making them cheaper to manufacture. Detecting 500MB for a 10GB hdd on a pentium system is odd. Normaly this only concern earl 486 systems. Did you disable LBA ? Check that, and if it is, re-enable it. I'd prefer to struggle to fix some dallas battery rather than trying to fix varta battery leakage. When I bought my 286, I was so happy to see it had a dallas chip and not a varta battery ^^ Though soldering them to the board is a really stupid idea indeed

@badmojo i440BX chipset doesn't have a 1/2 divider for AGP, only 1/1 or 2/3. At 66MHz or 100MHz FSB it's fine, but at 133MHz FSB, the AGP runs at 83-something MHz instead of 66MHz. In fact, i440BX was never rated for 133MHz even though it's perfectly ok at that speed (except for the AGP)

Yeah that cache is completely fake AND missplaced. Buy some real chips and align them to the right, that's how it worked on my board. If you don't believe me, just verify with a multimeter ^^

Which card do you have ? Is it a voodoo 2 ? Some early glide games don't like later 3dfx cards though you can often make them to work with some tweaking
