Re: 2007 "retro" C2D XP PC

The first Core 2 Duo chip I ever got was built into a 2008 system with Windows Vista and it ran it beautifully until the system was decommissioned in 2016. Vista totally got a bad rap. It was a good OS with solid security steps and integrated networking support (it wasn't clunky like the XP …

Re: I got Ultimate DOOM to install on my Windows XP machine, but it won't install on my Win95 laptop.

Soooo, copy the contents of that one disk to another floppy disk and try installing it again? That's very strange, it actually worked. Do you know why this is? It would also have worked if you had copied all of the files from the disk to your hard drive, then reformatted the floppy and wrote them …

Re: Athlon XP + V5 build

It's DDR memory, meaning they give you a memory clock speed 2x the FSB. So if you set the FSB to 200 MHz, the memory will run at 400MHz. But you'd better know your timings. I usually pick them up from within CPU-z. And that's even if your MB even supports FSB speeds over 166 MHz. My Socket A system …

Re: 1997 (ish) gaming build

I have a few links you can check out, but I have this nagging feeling it'll be blocked by an admin at some point, but for the record, I have NO AFFILIATION WITH THIS WEBSITE and I am NOT advertising for monetary gain - just to point someone in the right direction. 3DFX sticker - 20mm x 20mm (should …

Re: IBM APTIVA MASTER RACE!

FFXI, you kept the MWave? Those things are horrible. Especially installing the drivers for them. Nice work with the power + floppy eject buttons. Mine wasn't perfect either. I had to fix the door cause the plastic tab where a metal strip that is used to pull it up/down had broken off. I drilled a …

Re: IBM APTIVA MASTER RACE!

Nice system! How's that Bigfoot, is it slow? It's slower than a normal HDD, but since only the OS is on it, it's fast enough. There's a space inside for a regular 3.5" HDD, but I don't want to waste one of the good 40GB drives I have on this system. If I had a decent ~20GB drive, though, I'd …

Re: IBM APTIVA MASTER RACE!

I can chime in on this one. Went out looking for an old ATX case for my Pentium 1, Socket 7, Windows 95 build and ended up being given an entire working PC. IMG_0052[1].JPG Inside the chassis: IMG_0056[1].JPG AMD K6-2 300MHz installed and working: IMG_0057[1].JPG Motherboard has built-in ATI …

Re: New Voodoo2 SLI build!

If you have 2 Voodoo2 cards in SLI, you don't need to bother with a better AGP card. The reason I did mine was because I didn't have a lot of the original components. Like, I had the original motherboard, the original Pentium II, and the original RAM stick. I also had the original case. But that's …

Re: New Voodoo2 SLI build!

I recognize that case's power button. I think I have a similar and related case from 1999 from the same manufacturer. DSC00637.jpg DSC00623.jpg DSC00641.jpg This is my original first-built gaming PC from 1999 when I was in college. Other than how you have to open the case by pulling off the U-shaped …

Re: 2003 Athlon Build - Thoughts?

That spec looks very similar to the machine my family bought at the end of 2002 -- except ours had a T-bred 1700+ (1.47GHz), an ECS K7S5A motherboard, an SiS 305 32MB graphics card (that I still have), and a 40GB 7200RPM Maxtor HDD. Clearly 3D stuff of any kind was not a priority for ours. Mine was …

Re: 2003 Athlon Build - Thoughts?

So I dug up my original and first "new" pc build from 2003...amazingly Ebuyer still has the invoice on my account today. Screenshot_20180519-144919~2.png Jesus... WHY does EVERYONE here have an 8x AGP Athlon motherboard except ME?! *facepalm* (For the record, my Abit KX7-333 MB only supports …
