Whether or not it's a RAID card, it's definitely an i/o card of some sort, as the connector on the bottom right of the lower image says RS232, which makes it a COM port connector. As dr.ido asked, can you post a pic of the reverse of the card? That might help narrow it down.

How much RAM can be cached with 256KB or 512KB cache on a PVI-486SP3 motherboard? I'm looking for maximum performance, but see no reason to max out the RAM is it can't all be cached. Is it the same on all boards with external cache? Does it depend on how much L1 cache the CPU has?

According to the manual (English, attached as just downloaded from MSI German site - self extracting zip file) it only supports P2. Looking on Stason, it may not support anything over 333 MHz, so would definitely need a Slocket and a PGA CPU if you want to try a P3

If it's just the plastic ob the pins that is damaged (ie if nearby traces and components are undamaged) it should be OK. I would test it if I had it.

After a few minutes of Googling, it appears to be AGP 1.0, supporting AGP 1x and 2x cards. So first generation, which fits the age of it.
