Some members even consider early Core CPUs/systems to be retro, so most of your kit would qualify. I think of anything up to the last Core2 generation to be retro. The Skylake is the only system you mention that I wouldn't think of as retro (my main, and newest, PC is Skylake)

I prefer known working, including recapped, over NOS but likely dead. Got to get my head around recapping, but at 60 years old and no soldering experience in the last 30 years, I lack confidence more than skill 😀

The first thing I’d do is dismantle the fan to ensure the shaft isn’t pitted/corroded. If it is then you can polish it up using a ladies nail buffing stick, then reassemble and apply a small amount of a thin bearing oil. How does this spitted and/or corrosion look like? What would i look for? If …

Read up on the debug utility that ships with DOS. That can do it. It's been too long since I used it for me to be able to describe the specifics, but I believe you run debug.exe, then you type (inside the utility) "i " to read one byte from the port. The Cyrix chips have 1 KB L1 cache, the TI have 8 KB. Can't comment on performance, as I have yet to test them, but I believe the TI will outperform the Cyrix, if only because of the extra cache. Someone else will probably know more.

Neither of those sound particularly good. The higher the number the better. 2.4 is pretty low for heat transfer, but better than the generic paste.

I got lucky when I bought my EGA monitor. Can't remember the price, but I do remember it was less than £40 shipped. I wouldn't even consider trying to convert an EGA signal to VGA, as the resolutions are so different.
