If the drive was recently defragmented, Puran File Recovery will probably recover everything. Might take some time, but I've had success with it on a couple of corrupt drives, recovered over 99% of lost files and directories.

I've an AMD-K6-III+/400ATZ 1.6V (that's 9.5W TDP compared to 7.5W TDP of the AMD-K6-2+/350AUZ) running at 6x 83MHz and 1.65V, cooled by a passive Zalman chipset heatsink. It's blown by a low rev 80mm case fan from some distance. Not even getting hand warm. Could surely be run without the fan but …

When I was studying Software Engineering in 1995, a friend came in with a Pentium laptop, and the whole class was impressed seeing it run Doom. Given where he got his tech stuff (don't ask!), I would guess it was high end for the year.

Personally, as I can't afford to get involved in testing, I'd rather have something that is well thought out, tested and working next year than something that is cheap and imperfect yesterday. I appreciate the time and money a few of you are putting into this project.

I've never had original cables with a KVM, always used standard cables off eBay. I've always assumed you can always use 3rd party cables, but I may have just been lucky.

I'd say that if you already have the second CPU, it's worth the upgrade for the FSB boost. If you are looking to buy it, there shouldn't be a big difference in cost to jump to 3.2 GHz or even 3.4.

Textual user interfaces are easy to create in C++ and asm. A complete windowing system is almost as easy. You just need to write it initially in pseudo code, and break it down to the smallest elements. I need to rewrite my own for my x86 OS 😀

XP was developed in the 478 days, so 478 can be used for (I'm being careful not to say "is good for") anything from DOS to XP. With the right MB/CPU combo you can even use XP64 😀
