Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

Hi all, here's my PC. It's not the fastest PC of 1998, but it might have been the fastest in February 1998, exactly when the Voodoo 2 was released. Back then I was a teenager, frustrated with playing Quake 2 on my Pentium 133, 24 MB of RAM, without 3D acceleration. So yes, this PC here would have …

Re: Pentium 4 (LGA775 / i865) Multi-OS Build Log (DOS/Win 3.11/Win 95/Win NT/Win 98/Win 2k/Win XP)

Installed Windows 3.11 along with the Orpheus Win 3.1x drivers, CD Audio and the modified SVGA driver (to enable 256 colors). I also installed and ran Civilization II which did work, at least initially. Windows 3_11 Startup.jpg Windows 3_11 Driver Setup.jpg Civ 2 Win_311.jpg Unfortunately I ran into …

Re: Pentium 4 (LGA775 / i865) Multi-OS Build Log (DOS/Win 3.11/Win 95/Win NT/Win 98/Win 2k/Win XP)

Re: Sound acceleration levels?

I recently tested this with an Audigy 2 ZS card. Full acceleration includes all hardware acceleration including EAX. Turning it down a notch to Standard disables EAX. Turning it all the way down disables all hardware acceleration (which I'm assuming includes h/w mixing) and resulted in stuttering of …

Re: Wavetable and MT-32 on one PC

My experience is that sound cards will simply output MIDI signals to both gameport and wavetable headers. This means that you could get both devices (wavetable and MT-32) triggering at the same time. To solve this, you need to mute the audio from one or the other. This means either using an external …

Re: Pentium 4 (LGA775 / i865) Multi-OS Build Log (DOS/Win 3.11/Win 95/Win NT/Win 98/Win 2k/Win XP)

I have some vague recollections of GeForce 4 Ti cards causing minor issues with Build engine games like Duke3D. Something about V-Sync not working quite right which results in tearing when FASTVID is used? Been a while since I tested that, but I found this post which also references a similar issue …
