I guess that your CF card is too big for that controller. Did you boot from Floppy and Format the CF while connected to the controller and its Bios active? What does the Bios do? Maybe you can try to remove it and access the IDE interface with the Mainboard Bios?

Why do you think its the port and not the Mouse or its driver? Do the usual diagnostic programs list a serial port?

If the POST card displays nothing I would start with the BIOS chip. Is the sticker on it still intact?

Correct. My idea was that XT-IDE supports this but it doenst. This seems to be a suitable choice https://www.plop.at/en/bootmanagers.html According to the DOC you can install it as option ROM, too. Maybe I will also try this. SCSI with BIOS should also work, but never tried.

No, this will not work. EGA is digital, VGA analog. You need an EGA Monitor or a converter. I just ordered one for 15€ incl. shipment from China.
