The battery wil destroy your board earlier or later - remove it. You should not give up that fast. Try the supersoft-ROM.

Remove the barrel battery first. Read the ROM with a Programmer and test your image in an emulator. Please upload here if it works 80286 BIOS image collection Did you try the Supersoft diagnostic ROM? If this does not run, your board has another problem...

... What "XMS viewer" do you use? It will most likely be better than the testx I am using, it performs a random testing and it takes ages until a scan of 16 mb is completed...
