It was RAM. I removed both sticks and stuck in a PC66 64MB known good stick, and Windows 2000 installation completed without issues. Now I will need to do some RAM testing with memtest86. Fun times.

Could you be referring to cooked static lightmaps when you say ambient lighting? Because Doom 3 does have ambient lighting but also dynamic and volumetric lights which are although rasterized practically result in a look similar to raytracing..

I was thinking about this today. I want to see Moonstone remade. The original is a near perfect game, but the bugs need ironing out and the whole game can be 3D-fied while retainign the whole look and feel.
