The savage 4 has weak but barely passable 3d performance into '98, but has excellent S3 dos gaming support. The 5500 is also weak but with good image quality, dvi and fair dos performance. I can't seem to get CPU-Z to run on Win9x, gives me a bluescreen at startup around the 10% initialization mark, and the following error: "A fatal exception 0D has occured at 0028:C15F3D96 in VXD CVXDSAMP(01) + 00000226. The current application will be terminated." Probably a PCI probing problem? …

that sounds interesting, I really prefer the sharp pixelated rendering over early texture filtering in a lot of games. I used to have a Xonar DG but my new system has no PCI and I don't really find the need for a discrete sound card.. The audio circuitry on modern high end motherboards makes them mostly redundant, though I may invest in a USB DAC for recording.

As a sidenote, could someone enlighten me as to what XP can do that 2000 can not? I refused to switch to XP Bloat all the way until 2007/2006 or thereabouts and directly moved to Windows 7 Betas from that in 2008/2009, and I never felt like I missed out on anything..
