I remember PCI becoming the BIG THING in late 1995. I moved on to PCI in late 1996 when I upgraded from a DX4-100 to a Pentium 133 thanks to being exposed to Quake by a friend who had a Pentium 90 that danced circles around my PC. My first PCI peripheral was an S3 Trio64 graphics card.

Played a bit with the original Wolf3D source code, and managed to create a DOS binary with added "mouselook" and "always run" options. The mouselook option all it does is disable the y-axis of the mouse and make the left-right keys to strafe instead of turning. Tomorrow I think I'll play a bit more …

I also have a CT2290 SB16 and a Dreablaster S2 fits fine onto it. It's one of the least buggy SB16s, and to be fair I use an ES1868 instead of that in my 6x86 PC these days, I didn't run into any severe MIDI bugs while I used it.
