Are you using the ENMPU.EXE TSR that ES688 requires for using the MPU401? Yes i have. But using port 330 and irq 9. It will load but the midi port wont be detected by games. The TSR may be defaulting to IRQ2? I have a few Non-PnP ES688 cards and none of them allow me to actually change the MPU401 …

I have a 829A and a 831. 829A is an OPL3 card, the 831 however has Opti's own FM implementation. I find both to be noisy and OptiFM to be agreeable, but not preferrable. As a result, they rank way below my ESS Audiodrives in terms of preference.

Unless the board has obviously terrible things on it like rat piss and whatnot, I will just carefully wipe it down. I have washed hardware, but they were near unredeemable otherwise.

Not to mention that the 12V was not 'necessary', a decent PSU should have had good amperage on the 5V rail anyway. If anything, it was a fail on the part of PSU manufacturers and OEMs.

I stopped using ebay as a seller long ago. Their buyer-centric policies will be their downfall. They are no longer an auction house anymore anyway, just a regular marketplace like so many others. Fuck eBay. (Yes I still buy when I can find something for cheap)
