While I don't expect hardware from the post Pentium era to get any rarer or dearer I think Socket 5 and earlier hardware will become increasingly more expensive in a short while. Don't be surprised if 486 hardware prices double in a year or two.

It's all done on the EMU800, not software. Not sure what you mean by "all", but that's wrong anyway. That "64 voices" crap was a lie by Creative. The EMU8000 can do 32 voices and that's it. The AWE64 is just a renamed AWE32 with higher integration and all other features added by Windows software. …

the ati rge pro 8mb came out in august 99 and its probably much better than the i740 from jan 98 - 2x the core clock speed and 3x the throughput. real cheap on ebay. AMD Am486 DX4-120 has 8KB WT and WB variants, I don't think any faster CPU has less than 16KB cache.
