Re: Bought these games today

I came across this in a second hand game shop. I thought it was a DVD film at first.... https://i.imgur.com/vVQgXx7h.jpg looks interesting. I wonder what type of game it is? https://i.imgur.com/yeiFyy3h.jpg Nope this doesn't really tell me either? Nice looking manual and the disk just looks like a …

Re: Do I NEED to use on-card RAM with a SB32

Well it arrived and proved much simpler to get up and running than my no-name random OPTi / Crystal combo card I was using before that was faulty. Just installed the PNP manager and the driver install disk and it works fine with both SB music and sound effects. Quite pleased! https://i.imgur.com/ …

Re: Do I NEED to use on-card RAM with a SB32

Thanks for the help. I might take the opportunity to upgrade to 8/16mb ahead of a potential 486 upgrade. Would awe32 drivers work with this card? I see that there are quite a few files on Creative's website for my sb32 card in DOS: PnP manager, "basic disk", real and protected mode john miles …

Do I NEED to use on-card RAM with a SB32

I have bought a sb32 ct3600, it should arrive early next week. It doesn't come with any RAM in its memory slots. Do I need to use on-card memory to test it? If not, I'll test it and then spend more money on some memory. I have 4x 1mb system memory. Maybe I'll use two of those and upgrade to 6/8/12mb …

Realtek HD Audio and XP Gaming (EAX/A3D)

Recently I have been doing my XP gaming on a "sensible modern PC" - C2D 8500, 3GB DDR2, NVidia 645. Definitely powerful enough for games that prefer XP but still very cheap. It has "Realtek HD Audio" via an "ALC888". I'm not really sure what Realtek HD Audio actually is as a few different 'chips' …

Re: Could manufacturers re-release 90s hardware?

I highly doubt you'll see any manufacturer do such a thing with individual hardware parts requiring drivers for operating systems that went EOL decades ago. Yes the fact that you'd need a variety of manufacturers on board to make one retro PC does ruin my plan somewhat. Which is why I thought that …

Could manufacturers re-release 90s hardware?

Obviously it is not going to happen. But today I just had a thought that, given the rise of retro gaming popularity, why doesn't a manufacturer (even if it is a "new" one, not a big player) release a motherboard specifically for Windows 9x that has S370 / Slot 1 with AGP, PCI, ISA, SATA, USB 2/3, …

The First Decade on Windows 98

I want to play some C&C, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun etc. I know I can download it for free and legally from C&C Online and play in 1080p on my main PC, but I am not sure that it includes the music ? I've got The First Decade DVD. I've got a Windows 98 PC with a DVD drive. When I try to install it, the …

Re: What game are you playing now?

It's not really a game but I had a go at the Titanic: Honor and Glory tech demo in UE4. It look stunning but don't expect anything more than a tech demo! I've always been interested in the Titanic, more so since I moved to Southampton, where she departed on her maiden voyage. There is a good Titanic …

Re: AMD 750 what to expect

My Irongate has been very reliable, my most reliable PC in fact (especially as I bought it for £15 from someone who claimed to have just found it in their attic). I haven't found any specific chipset drivers as such. I install USB from here , and then just "AGP slot" drivers (if using AGP) and "IDE …
