most Mendocino cores can handle 550-600MHz max Depends on a production date. Early production date usually scores 500Mhz tops. 1st note: 440 Z x, not a 440BX. 440ZX = 440BX with 512Mb RAM limit and without dual CPU support. So in all fairness, it's almost the same thing.

From more practical point of view, yeah, it's useless. Everything it can do can be achieved with the right 386 build. Or even more, if a motherboard with swappable oscillator is considered. So you could freely switch between 16-40Mhz + Turbo. But hey, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

One more thing. Quadro 4 NVS 100 is apparently GeForce 4 MX 420, but with 64-bit DDR memory (128-bit SDR on 420). So it's only 1.4x-1.5x times faster than normal GeForce 2 MX 400, when CPU isn't a bottleneck.

Radeon 9200 was Radeon 9000 refresh with added 8x support, similar to GF4MX-8x. It will work with any AGP slot.

Far Cry works fine even on a GeForce2 card. No, it doesn't. Even shaderless, Far Cry is quite geometry intensive game for GeForce 2. Crysis works fine in 32-bit mode as well. It runs fine, but there's noticeable difference in texture streaming between two versions.

Ok, so the only card that can play it with HDR and FSAA on are.. X1K series? Actually, you can play Far Cry HDR with anti-aliasing even of GeForce 6xxx/7xxx, but you're limited only to SSAA. Then again, all DX10+ cards will work with HDR and MSAA. And you need DX10+ card anyway, for smooth gaming …

9800PRO doesn't choke on Far Cry It chokes heavily with anti-aliasing and high resolution. because if you enable HDR you can't enable FSAA. You can, that's only GeForce 6xxx/7xxx limitation.

Far Cry can't be maxed out on Radeon 9800. Patch 1.3 implemented HDR support, which can't be rendered on Shader Model 2.0 hardware.

Yes. PIIOD with overclocked GF2MX should probably scale more or less identical to PII/Quadro4 PCI. Full speed L2 cache can almost completely negate any advantages of more modern chipset.

As I've said before, your GF2MX card has suspiciously low clocks. I would try to overclock it to 200/200 or more first. If that doesn't help, switch to Detonator 28.32 or 12.10. I think Quake 2, Turok and Incoming are good candidates for retesting,

Nope. Too rare and expensive for me. I probably can do more tests with Riva TNT2 PCI, but in 1024x768 it will be very noticeably slower.

Do you have a GF2MX to test? No. I probably can try to use AGP-to-PCI adapter and pray that it will work with some random GF2MX. What are your results when using v45.23? Didn't tried them on PPro.
