Pentium Pro 200 performance is more or less equal to Pentium II 200. Voodoo 2 is fine for such setup.

The phenom has not aged well, it's competitor the q6600 can still run the modern web. Nah, they both aged bad, lacking crucial this days SSE 4.1 and SSE 4.2 extensions. In fact, Q6600 aged terribly, with all those Intel security flaws present.

Built in audio for a while now isn't that bad unless you are trying to record music for a real studio but for gaming it is fine. But they offered powerful DSPs with their cards.

There's no 3x multiplier. So such comparison can be only done with 100Mhz Pentium.

Ahem, 50 Mhz bus has 2/3 divider for PCI. Intel weren't that dumb. As for the bus difference itself, early Pentiums had quite anemic performance, which couldn't use its at full potential anyway. A little know fact is that burst cache wasn't actually invention of the Intel Triton chipset. 430LX/NX as well as SiS 801 do support burst SRAMs too It's probably doesn't matter without COAST module slot.

In Triton era Intel experimented with cache-less EDO RAM designs, but it wasn't working. Well, good ol' Triton can perform slower with async L2 cache enabled in some tests.

Technically it's just better to obtain the cheapest option with the socket clip included and mount some decent Socket 370/Socket A cooler instead.

There is no way to overclock a Pentium3 733/fsb 133 to 1.000 Mhz. It's possible to achieve on select few boards with i815EP/i815EPT chipset. Those are not HP manufactured cards, they were just sold by Matrox specifically to HP as OEM spare parts (upgrade, customer warranty, etc). I think, only Compaq did their own Matrox cards of that era. Then again, maybe they had a contract with Matrox to manufacture Compaq branded cards for them.

Depends on your wallet and availability. Voodoo 1 is more cheap option (usually), but performance is not optimal for a Pentium Pro system.

PCI-E works just fine in win9x, no additional drivers required. It's more or less like PCI on steroids.

I assumed extra bandwith of Dual channel would be useful if you run DDR in asynchronous mode Nforce 2 chipset is not optimized for async mode, so it doesn't really matter if dual channel can fully saturate FSB bandwidth.

There was one discussion about GeForce 2 and Matrox G400 image quality, which mentioned Homeworld. Apparently the colors are off on a hardware without palettized texture support. Unfortunately the video is down.

Trident 9440 series is horrible. It's more or less fine as VLB card for a 486 system (CPU is too weak anyway in most cases), but PCI version does not scale gracefully.
