I think Pentium was the first generation that became affordable soon after it was released at least in my country and I bought 90Mhz pentium in 1995 with windows 95. Pentium overall was not very affordable and 486 was still going strong.

A Deschutes 266 would be a pretty good substitution. Hardly, those are more power hungry and limited to Slot 1. So, do you think this is worth pursuing? It should be considered as an alternative to the VIA C3 series, though latter could go slower or even faster. Quake @ what res? 320x200, 320x240? …

CT3670 Good card on paper if you don't need external MIDI (can be fixed), but can be very wonky in practice. Mine refused to work in Win 98SE properly.

In reverse, some old CF cards (my example) have no TRIM Those usually have quite robust and old NAND, which can take heavier beating when it come to amount of rewrite cycles.

Its timing was just a bit unfortunate, as well as the choice for the media they used. The later Xbox and PS2 basically did everything better. Not everything. PS2 had some issues with color depth and mipmapping which Dreamcast didn't had. And both PS2 and Xbox lacked hardware "It's just works!" …

And i815 useless? It's hands down clock-for-clock the fastest performing Tualatin It's not practical to use due to mentioned RAM limitations and lack of ISA slots. Also 440BX is still faster. Also KT266A was released in 2001, which is hands down go to platform of that year, if lack of ISA not …
