One thing I haver noticed about optical drives is that dvd drives reading cds seems to be much quieter compared to a cd drive reading cds.

New LCD monitors have a problem with synching to the vga signal or something. I can't remember what the exact answer is, so you need to search Vogons for signal on LCD/TFT and old ISA cards. If you mean 32bit color rendering, all geforce cards from geforce256 to geforce FX series support 32bit color rendering, table fog and 8bit paletized textures. Older TNT and TNT 2 cards had table fog support but no 8 bit paletized textures support.

DirectX version has usually been the main reasons for direct3d not working when installing new drivers for me too. Install at least directx 7.0a and if that doesn't work try directx 8.1 too.

I had a ticking problem with my sound card a while back but the reason was that my power supply was about to fail. The power supply stopped working couple days later and I had to get a new one and that that ticking was gone.

I have personally had terrible luck with LG drives. Both LG drives I have had in the past both failed within 6 months. After that I didn't really want to touch them.

For dx4 you need to be able to change voltage. That is most important thing that you don't break your dx4 cpu. I don't recognize the motherboard, so I don't know if it has jumpers for changing the voltage. Maybe there are markings about changing voltage somewhere on it?

It depends on the card. Some ET4000 cards with 256color are mostly OK, but I can confirm that my diamond-speedstar-vga needs the svga-fix on some games. The ET4000/w32 are even worse. My PCD4L with ET4000/w32 produces ugly glitches on PriratesGold and also in TowerAssault. I think those ET4000's …

I don't think you can compare clockspeeds with all those architecture differences that nvidia and ati have. In any case M64 was the only TNT2 card with 64 memory bus, so other TNT2 cards don't have that problem.

Perhaps they are rarer because older cards are more likely to have failed or perhaps they had production problems at start like it often seems to be with just released video cards.
