Any flash memory on IDE is faster than an SCSI drive, since you have no seek time. ALS100+ supports external OPL3, which most cards based on that chip use. I own three and all have an external OPL3 "clone". ALS120 was the first to my knowledge which can only use internal ALSFM.

The wavetable normally has it's own sound channel whose volume you need to set. For ESS, that is AUX2, which is muted by default.

That's not for shielding but to protect you from death should the PSU or the switch ever fail in a way that puts mains voltage on the chasis. You MUST connect it, since that switch is directly connected to mains. And that is also the difference to ATX.

In Windows, you select "FM synthesis" for MIDI and Windows will do the rest. The media player can play MIDI files using the OPL3 then with no additional drivers or software required. That works since Win3.1 up to XP at least.

The differences can be read on Wikipedia. The most important thing to know is, however, that almost no device supports USB 1.0. No matter how old a USB device is, chances are 99% that it requires at least USB 1.1 to work. USB 1.0 was pretty much ignored back then.

Well, if you tell it to use IRQ 3 but it uses IRQ 15 instead, it already shows that the EEPROM can not be updated anymore. Of course, it may also be something else, but it's still important to know about that issue.

Stability is not an issue,but a performance drop between K6-III+ and K6-III when clocked @ same speed. Are you aware that the K6-III+ was made for mobile devices, whereas the K6-III was made for desktops? It's to be expected that power-saving features causes slighly lower performance.
