Really? All three jumpers have a description next to them. The problem you have with not getting that thing to work is that you don't have the correct software / drivers for it. You can't just use drivers from some other hand scanner and expect it to work.

The computer is an IBM PS/1 that originally had a Intel 486dx-50 CPU. I guess you mean dx2-50..? It makes fully sense then. The DX4 runs at three times the FSB, so 3x 25 MHz = 75 MHz. You need to raise the FSB to 33 MHz.

What's the problem exactly? Except cheap multi-i/o controller cards from back then, 99% of all non-pnp cards have jumpers that tell you what they are for. Show me e.g. a soundcard with jumpers for base address, irq, and dma that has no silk-screening explaining the jumpers.

You are using MSCDEX wrong. After /D: comes the name you gave the device, not the name of the driver file. So try removing ".SYS".

Because you either need an E-IDE BIOS (e.g. XTIDE) or some Drive Overlay software (e.g. EZ Drive). Otherwise, DOS won't see more than 504 MB.

Are you using it in an 16-bit ISA slot? You still did not tell which program actually shows that it only has 256 KB.

It would have been much easier to just let it run with Windows XP and install 98 in VirtualBox. While the N270 has no virtualisation technology, it would still be enough for 98 and some old promo game.

Try manually changing the address mode for the hard disk in the BIOS from LBA to Large or vice-versa. I had many times that auto-detect used a mode which caused a freeze at POST.

AWE64 does not have a buggy MPU-401. You only have to live with bad OPL3 emulation and SBPro2 in mono only.

Did you actually try if a real hard disk with less than 528 MB works? Also, as already suggested, remove all other cards while testing.

Why do you want to run it with 4.0V? If you go higher than 3.6V, you may fry the chip.
